Boy was that a long month, wasn’t it?
By: Lugo | November 26th, 2008and, sarcasm aside, I’m really sorry that computer and work issues kept me away from my blog (thankfully I can still call it that) for so log. But I’m glad to be here for the second round of the groups stage at the copa mustang. The results of the first matchday were:
Group A
Equidad 0 x 0 Nacional
Medellin 2 x 1 Tolima
Group B
America 3 x 0 Pereira
Junior 2 x 0 Cali
Tonight and tomorrow we’ll have the Medellin and Cali derbies. It’ll be interesting to see if Medellin can mantain their momentum after their convincing albeit short victory and overtake a Nacional that got a nice point from Bogota’s sole representative but where nowhere near brilliance in the process of doing so. In Cali, it’s America that is coming up strong but the team with the new stadium (due to begin play there in ‘09) have a tremendous strike force lead by the possible new MLS signing Fredy Montero. Equidad will have the daunting task of facing the regular season leaders Tolima with the crux of being the only home side that did not bag the first 3 points in the first round. A defeat would leave them pretty much out of the title race. Junior faces a ridiculed Pereira team that probably did enough already by avoiding relegation. Let me emphacize the “ridiculed” part: Pereira’s aging keeper Higuita (yes, that same Higuita from the 90’s, the one who did the scorpion) conceded a goal after being dribled by the opposing forward Arango IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CENTER CIRCLE. Embarrasing.
Any lingering doubts about the current state of Colombian Football? Feel free to shoot.
